Peanut butter and chocolate baked cheesecake

Like many of us, it wasn’t so long ago when I discovered how gorgeous the combination of chocolate and peanut butter can be. I thought I’d try my hand at a baked cheesecake for the first time, with a beautiful peanut butter filling and chocolate topping with Reese pieces sitting underneath the chocolate layer. With a lovely baked biscuit base, it was a delicious, albeit very naughty treat this Christmas.

Three fun facts:
  • The earliest attested mention of a cheesecake is by the Greek physician Aegimus (5th century BCE), who wrote a book on the art of making cheesecakes.
  • The closest account we have of who invented the combination of peanut butter with chocolate is Harry Burnett Reese, who invented what we now know as the Reese's peanut butter cup in 1928.
  • It is believed that cheesecakes were served to athletes competing during the first Olympic games in 776 B.C. to give them energy.
